Your Doctor of Chiropractic and You
Your doctor of chiropractic is specially skilled in the
techniques of spinal adjustments and knowledgeable in the prevention of
neck problems. Chiropractic adjustments, the core of your treatment, can
restore joint mobility and function and relieve pressure on pain-sensitive
structures. Treatment also emphasizes the importance of good neck hygiene,
taking care of your neck and improving your overall wellness.
Historically, spinal adjustments (manipulation) have long
been accepted as a method for treating neck problems. Hippocrates, the
Father of Medicine, applied this approach more than 2,000 years ago.
Training in chiropractic requires a minimum of six years
of college study and clinic internship. Training includes two years of
study focusing on the basic sciences. The last years focus on the treatment
and prevention of specific musculoskeletal and structural problems of
the entire human body.
Today, the chiropractic profession is a recognized field
of health care throughout the U.S. and most foreign countries. Every year,
millions of people with neck problems visit their chiropractors to find
relief or for preventative health care. Chiropractors are also active
in sports medicine, posture screenings in schools, and worksite design
for back and neck health.
Chiropractic practice emphasizes spinal adjustments, soft
tissue manipulation, related treatment, and overall wellness for a healthy
neck. If chiropractic is not appropriate treatment for your problem, your
chiropractor will refer you to another health specialist.
